DAY IN THE LIFE

Drop Off

Our doors open from 08:00, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast. For weaning babies at all mealtimes, a specially curated weaning menu is prepared by our trained chef and can be mashed, chopped or pureed depending on your child's individual needs.

Morning

We come together for our daily outdoor music and movement time before beginning a morning filled with exciting opportunities for learning and discovery. Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play.

Lunch

From 11:30, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chef. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. For our little sleepers, we create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. From 15:00, our children enjoy a delicious evening meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Nursery closes at 18:00, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

What is the unique ethos and philosophy of your nursery team, particularly for military families?

Our nursery is supported by a dedicated team of long-standing staff, including managers and chefs who have been part of our nursery family for over 23 years. Their experience, knowledge, and genuine care help to create a warm, nurturing environment where children feel safe, valued, and understood. Led by highly qualified practitioners, including Level 6 professionals, our team takes the time to truly get to know each child. Every member of staff understands each child's routines, interests, and individual needs, ensuring consistent care and meaningful relationships across the whole nursery, not just within their room.

What links do you have with local schools to prepare my child for the next step?

Our school readiness programme helps children feel confident and prepared for their move to school. Through activities such as show and tell, weekly assemblies, phonics sessions, PE, and practising independence skills, children develop confidence, communication, and resilience.

We also work closely with local schools to support a smooth transition. Teachers visit the nursery to meet children and speak with key workers, while families are kept informed about open days and stay-and-play sessions. By gradually introducing school-style routines such as lining up, taking turns, and listening to adults, we help children feel ready and excited for their next adventure.

How do your settling-in sessions work?

We offer a flexible settling-in process to help children feel comfortable and secure. Families begin with a one-hour session with the room leader to discuss routines, interests, and individual needs, followed by settling sessions of one hour, two hours, and three hours to gradually build familiarity and confidence.

These sessions usually take place one to two weeks before a child's start date, with additional sessions available if needed to ensure every child settles in at their own pace.

What are your staff-to-child ratios at the nursery?

We are committed to providing the highest standard of care and attention for every child, with safety as our top priority. Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to and, in some cases, exceed UK regulations to ensure a secure, nurturing, and engaging environment.

Our regulated ratios are as follows:

  • Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)
  • Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)
  • Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

By maintaining these ratios, we guarantee that each child receives the individual support, supervision, and guidance they need to thrive in a safe and monitored setting.

How often do the children play outside?

We encourage free-flow play throughout the day, giving children the opportunity to explore and learn independently. Our outdoor areas are divided into age-specific gardens for under twos and over twos, ensuring children have access to experiences that are safe, stimulating, and appropriate for their stage of development.

Children in our baby and toddler rooms regularly access the outdoor environment and can explore different areas with the support of a member of staff, promoting confidence, independence, and a love of outdoor learning.

We believe that providing children with rich and varied learning opportunities from an early age supports their overall development and helps them to thrive. Each week, children will enjoy a thoughtfully planned programme of enrichment activities designed to enhance their nursery experience, spark curiosity, nurture a love of learning and create memorable moments. These additional experiences encourage creativity, support holistic development and provide wonderful learning opportunities that broaden children’s experiences and help them discover more about the world around them.

“We enjoyed the emphasis on learning, and being at Kindred did wonders for his confidence and personal development. The app was great for keeping track of what the children were doing on any one day, and allowed us to ask questions and get a quick response. Overall, we highly recommend Kindred to any parent.”
