Why families choose Kindred Royston Church House

We follow a Reggio-inspired approach to learning at Kindred Royston Church House Nursery and Pre-School, using loose parts play and natural resources to encourage creativity, open-ended exploration, and problem solving.

Each of our rooms has its own garden thoughtfully designed for age-specific development. We also have a nursery allotment, where our children grow their own fruit and veg whilst learning all about sustainability. Best of all our onsite chef incorporates our homegrown produce in our yummy and nutritious meals.

We stay actively involved in our local community through regular trips into Royston. Our children enjoy meaningful visits to the local care home and library, alongside nature walks around the area.

A little about me...

My favourite animal is an otter because I love watching them swim, play and slide down muddy banks. They are incredibly caring and affectionate animals, which is something I can really relate to.

What is one of the most important things you should know about us? That’s easy: our fabulous teams! Pure and simple.
Dedicated to being the best that a family could ask for, our team are constantly developing themselves through our training program run by childcare and EYFS experts.
It is not just our little ones who are the passionate lifelong learners here at Kindred! It’s all a testament to their love of what they do, and what makes Kindred the incredible, loving place that it is.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Select a time of day...

Drop Off

Our doors open from 07:30, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast from 08:00. For weaning babies at all mealtimes, a specially curated weaning menu is prepared by our trained chef and can be mashed, chopped or pureed depending on your child's individual needs.

Morning

We come together for circle time before beginning a morning filled with exciting opportunities for learning and discovery. Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play. A healthy snack is available from 10:00 to keep everyone energised throughout their busy morning.

Lunch

From 11:30, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chef. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. For our little sleepers, we create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. From 15:30, our children enjoy a delicious evening meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Nursery closes at 18:00, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

Does your nursery take the children out for trips in the local community?

We love taking our children out for trips in and around Royston including visits to the local library and nature walks around the local area. We have strong community links with our local care home which we visit monthly for intergenerational activities.

How do the settling in sessions at your nursery work?

Our settling-in process is carefully designed to be gradual, personal and supportive. We typically offer 3 settling sessions.
During your first session you and your child will meet with their key person and complete the “All About Me” Booklet. This is followed by longer second and third sessions where you will drop your child allowing them to independently familiarise themselves with their new environment and build bonds with staff and their peers.

How does your nursery prepare my child for the transition to school?

We have strong links with our local schools. During the transition period teachers will visit the nursery to meet the children in a familiar environment. We work closely with families throughout the transition process, sharing practical guidance and ensuring everyone feels prepared for this exciting next step.

What is the unique feel or ethos of your nursery team?

The heart of Royston Church House is our passionate and caring team. We strive to create a warm environment every child feels understood with a strong focus on helping them to recognise and express their emotions.  A strong sense of community runs through everything we do. From involving families in nursery life and celebrating special occasions together, to regular visits within the local community, we help our children build meaningful connections with the world around them.

What are the designated parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up at your nursery?

We have a small on-site car park, providing parking spaces for quick drop-off and pick-up visits. Additional roadside parking is available nearby, although some surrounding spaces are intended for short stays only.

"My son really enjoys going to Kindred and they are always doing fun, creative tasks. Every time I go there I am amazed at how calm it is with such a large volume of Children around and the staff are all really nice. I really appreciate the activities they put on for the parents and it's very inclusive."

Gareth C

“Really lovely staff who have bonded with my child and have helped her grow and learn new skills. The facilities are nice and activities are varied, as is the food menu, she's often eating better than me, and getting a good variation of food.”

Simon H

"My daughter has been attending Kindred Church house for a few months now, and absolutely loves going in every day. The staff are kind and caring, the variety of food is brilliant and the increase in her confidence and communication skills is already evident, so we're thrilled."
