What makes Kindred Durrington unique?

Kindred Durrington is a purpose-built nursery, thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity through its wonderful Scandi-inspired environment. With soft neutral tones and carefully selected natural materials, our spaces feel calm and homely.

We follow a Reggio-inspired approach to learning, with a strong emphasis on loose parts play that encourages open-ended exploration, creativity, and problem solving.

Outside we have dedicated physical development equipment including climbing blocks, balance beams, and tunnels to support movement and coordination.

We're also proud to support our military families, helping children settle seamlessly into nursery life - whilst also equipping them with the emotional resilience and confidence needed to transition smoothly to new settings if families relocate.

Parent Reviews

  • "Since my son has started at Kindred nursery, durrington, all the staff have gone above and beyond to make him feel settled and to reassure me in starting our nursery journey. My son has issues with separation from myself, so the staff have done everything possible to make my son feel comfortable and confident when I leave him. The nursery have fantastic communication so I am never left wondering how he is doing, and since September we have had a number of meetings/phone calls to update me on my son's progress and areas we can work on as a team."

  • "My son has attended this nursery for almost 2 years. In that time he has built great bonds with the staff, especially one in particular who he adores. All the staff are always smiling and welcoming. We always receive an update of the day when we pick up our son as well as regular updates via the app. The meals provided are a good variety, my son always finishes his meals and often has seconds. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, always happy to help. Also on 2 occasions the staff member has not recognised the grandparent picking up my son and followed appropriate policies in order to safeguard, which as a parent is very important."

  • "My son has been attending this nursery for 6 months and I am so impressed by his development. He always comes home happy and we love to talk about all the exciting things he did that day. The team are very friendly and welcoming and really help support each individual child!"

  • "Our daughter attends Kindred Durrington and has made so much progress since her enrolment began. Each of the staff are caring, attentive, knowledgeable and supportive which makes my daughter excited to go into nursery each morning and happy on collection. The relationships and trust that she has with them at Kindred is wholesome and we feel really lucky to have them look after our daughter with such care."

Kindred Durrington Nursery and Pre-School FAQs

What is the unique ethos and philosophy of your nursery team, particularly for military families?

Our unique philosophy is centred around helping our children to be confident, curious, resilient, and independent individuals. Whilst our curriculum is based on the EYFS, we have built upon it to focus on these key skills. We understand the unique needs of military families, so we ensure that we tailor our goals for confidence and resilience to each unique child and provide support that is meaningful to their specific life experience.

What links do you have with local schools to prepare my child for the next step?

We establish strong connections with local schools to ensure a smooth and confident transition for your child. Our preparation includes:

Teacher Handover Visits: Reception teachers from local schools come into the nursery to meet the children and conduct a personalised handover, ensuring they receive all necessary information about your child and their progress.

Parent Transition Events: We host a dedicated Parent Transition to School Workshop. The session is designed to prepare parents and answer any questions they might have about the application process and what to expect when their child starts school.

How do your settling-in sessions work?

Given that many of our families are military-affiliated, we recognise that their needs can vary greatly. Therefore, our settling-in process is fully flexible. We collaborate with you to determine the number, length, and timing of sessions based entirely on the needs of each individual child and family, ensuring a comfortable and customised transition for everyone.

Do you take the children out into the local community?

Yes, we believe that immersing children in the world around them is vital for their development. We actively try to take the children out on trips to the local community as much as we can. These trips are an excellent way to support their learning, curiosity, and understanding of their local environment.

What are your staff-to-child ratios at the nursery?

We are committed to providing the highest standard of care and attention for every child, with safety as our top priority. Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to and, in some cases, exceed UK regulations to ensure a secure, nurturing, and engaging environment.

Our regulated ratios are as follows:

Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)

Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)

Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

By maintaining these ratios, we guarantee that each child receives the individual support, supervision, and guidance they need to thrive in a safe and monitored setting.
