Every Meal Matters: How we make Nutrition & Safety Second Nature at Kindred Nurseries
Read more...
Kindred Durrington is a purpose-built nursery, thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity through its wonderful Scandi-inspired environment. With soft neutral tones and carefully selected natural materials, our spaces feel calm and homely.
We follow a Reggio-inspired approach to learning, with a strong emphasis on loose parts play that encourages open-ended exploration, creativity, and problem solving.
Outside we have dedicated physical development equipment including climbing blocks, balance beams, and tunnels to support movement and coordination.
We're also proud to support our military families, helping children settle seamlessly into nursery life - whilst also equipping them with the emotional resilience and confidence needed to transition smoothly to new settings if families relocate.

Hello, my name is Chelsey, and I am the Nursery Manager here at Kindred Durrington.
I have a Foundation Degree in Early Years and have worked in Childcare for 10 years, starting my journey as an apprentice. During this time, I have held a variety of roles and completed different qualifications, whilst developing new skills and interests along the way.
I joined Kindred Durrington in January 2024 and have a passion for creating enabling environments and ensuring every child has access to a range if meaningful learning opportunities.
Hi, I'm Jenniie and I am the Deputy Manager as well as a Room Leader here at Kindred Durrington.
At Kindred Nurseries, the safety and well-being of our children, teams and families are our highest priorities. Safeguarding is woven into every aspect of our operations. We are dedicated to creating a safe, supportive and nurturing environment where children, staff and families can thrive. Read more about our commitment to safety and wellbeing.
What is the unique ethos and philosophy of your nursery team, particularly for military families?
Our unique philosophy is centred around helping our children to be confident, curious, resilient, and independent individuals. Whilst our curriculum is based on the EYFS, we have built upon it to focus on these key skills. We understand the unique needs of military families, so we ensure that we tailor our goals for confidence and resilience to each unique child and provide support that is meaningful to their specific life experience.
What links do you have with local schools to prepare my child for the next step?
We establish strong connections with local schools to ensure a smooth and confident transition for your child. Our preparation includes:
Teacher Handover Visits: Reception teachers from local schools come into the nursery to meet the children and conduct a personalised handover, ensuring they receive all necessary information about your child and their progress.
Parent Transition Events: We host a dedicated Parent Transition to School Workshop. The session is designed to prepare parents and answer any questions they might have about the application process and what to expect when their child starts school.
How do your settling-in sessions work?
Given that many of our families are military-affiliated, we recognise that their needs can vary greatly. Therefore, our settling-in process is fully flexible. We collaborate with you to determine the number, length, and timing of sessions based entirely on the needs of each individual child and family, ensuring a comfortable and customised transition for everyone.
Do you take the children out into the local community?
Yes, we believe that immersing children in the world around them is vital for their development. We actively try to take the children out on trips to the local community as much as we can. These trips are an excellent way to support their learning, curiosity, and understanding of their local environment.
What are your staff-to-child ratios at the nursery?
We are committed to providing the highest standard of care and attention for every child, with safety as our top priority. Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to and, in some cases, exceed UK regulations to ensure a secure, nurturing, and engaging environment.
Our regulated ratios are as follows:
Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)
Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)
Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)
By maintaining these ratios, we guarantee that each child receives the individual support, supervision, and guidance they need to thrive in a safe and monitored setting.
