What makes Kindred Odstock unique?

An indoor play area with a wooden climbing structure, a window overlooking a garden, and a chair with a doll. A close-up view of a workbench with loose parts like bottle caps, yarn, and natural materials for creative projects.

At Kindred Odstock, we embrace the Curiosity Approach, using open-ended resources and natural materials to create an environment where every child can lead their own learning journey.

We have an impressive outdoor space with our very own woodland area for Forest School. Here, our children learn valuable life skills - from building dens to safely making fires - all under close supervision from trained practitioners. These experiences not only build confidence but help nurture independence, resilience, and a deep connection with nature.

Indoors, our unique loose parts room is a wonderfully large space where imaginations can thrive. We offer woodworking and construction resources that promote problem-solving and creative thinking.

Parent Reviews

  • "Our son has attended Kindred from the baby room and he is now due to move from Toddlers up to Preschool. We have felt very comfortable from the beginning with the care he receives, he is so well cared for and he absolutely thrives. They are always so interested in his likes/dislikes and current interests and he learns something new every day. I cannot fault the nursery at all, I'm so pleased we picked this one."

  • "From the moment we attended the open day we knew this was the nursery for us to have our son attend! The difference in the confidence, sharing and gentleness towards others he is showing is incredible, he has learnt so much  in a short period of time and for this we are truly grateful to the staff for the work they do to help him learn and grow! The staff are all welcoming, we love the use of the app to provide updates and show off what our son has been achieving. Our son looks forward to ringing the doorbell every morning to see what awaits him behind the door for the day,
with different activities inside and outside the baby room, it's lovely to see how much they have to offer. With our son being a big lover of food, the variety of foods the nursery has to offer it's great to see!"

  • "Kindred Odstock is a great nursery setting. They’ve been amazing with my daughter who has special needs and they are supporting her in every way they can. They support her sensory needs and interests so she can develop to her best potential. They make necessary adjustments to accommodate her needs which we are grateful for. The staff are lovely, kind, patient, understanding and experienced. They communicate well with us (parents) via the app where they update us with the achievement and development of our daughter which is great. They have lots of interesting activities indoors and outdoors that would develop the children’s imagination and creativity. I would recommend them to anyone."

  • "Something I notice whenever I go and pick up my son is that the staff are, without fail, on the floor with the children, playing and interacting with them. I've never once seen a member of staff 'hanging around'. I don't know where they all get the energy from, but they're so animated with the children from the start of the day until the very end. When my son first joined Kindred Odstock, I really appreciated how they accommodated my wish to settle him in gradually. Rather than having a rigid number of settle sessions, they went at my child's pace (and my pace, as a nervous first time mum). One time my child was really upset at drop off, which in turn made me upset. They showed such kindness and understanding, taking the time to sit with the both of us until we felt better. I could have felt embarrassed but they showed such kindness and understanding. I really appreciated that."

  • "I love the connection with the app from the nursery to us as parents to see what our son has been up to that day/week and the fact you can see what he has eaten during that day/week also. The staff are truly amazing and so welcoming. From the minute we walked around the nursery and seeing what the nursery has to offer our son we knew as parents it was the one. The confidence, care and constant support to help our son grow is amazing. We know that our son is safe and secure and the nursery have the children's best interest at all times."

Our Team

Meet Our Kindred Odstock Nursery Staff

Jessica Angell
Nursery Manager

I started working with children in 2003 where I began my training for my level 2 and 3. My journey at Odstock began in 2014 when we first opened. I worked alongside the then manager to set up and develop the nursery and with the embedding of our ethos and practice, which we are still so passionate about today.

I began as the baby room leader and while the then deputy was on maternity leave, I stepped up into the position of Deputy Manager and maintained it until being promoted to Nursery Manager in 2022.

I feel really passionate about respectful care in young children and strive to create strong relationships between adults and children. In March 2019 I got the chance to visit Budapest where I took part in a week’s course to understand more about respectful care and how important freedom of movement and relationships are for young children to develop and to feel safe and secure within their environment.

Chloe Musslewhite
Deputy Nursery Manager

My career in childcare started in 2018 when I was an apprentice working towards my Level 3 in Childcare. After completing this qualification, I wanted to try a new and bigger setting, so I moved to a nursery and had the opportunity to step into the deputy manager and SENCO role to cover maternity leave. During this time, I studied for my Level 4 and Level 5 Foundation degree.

My journey at Kindred Odstock started in February 2025, where I became the deputy manger and SENCO.

I am dedicated at supporting children to achieve their full potential. I champion SEN and want to ensure that both children and parents receive the correct outside support.

Kindred Odstock Nursery and Pre-school FAQ

What are the designated parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up?

Our facility features a dedicated, small car park located directly at the front of the nursery. This convenient on-site parking is designed to make drop-off and pick-up quick and easy, ensuring a smooth and safe transition for your child to and from our care

What is the unique ethos and philosophy of your nursery team?

Our nursery's ethos is built on a foundation of respectful care, where we are passionate about empowering children with real-world skills and problem-solving abilities. We believe in providing a rich learning environment that goes beyond traditional toys.

We do this by:

Giving children real tools, such as those used in woodwork, to foster a sense of responsibility and skill development.

Using loose parts, which are open-ended materials that children can use however their imagination sees fit. This approach encourages creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to find new solutions to problems.

By treating children with respect and offering these unique learning opportunities, we help them develop into confident, capable, and resourceful individuals.

What links do you have with local schools to prepare my child for their next step?

To ensure a smooth and confident transition to primary school, we host a dedicated "Transition to School" workshop for parents. Once your child's school placement has been secured, we invite you to attend this session. The workshop provides valuable insights, covering the essential dos and don'ts of starting school, and offers a practical guide to help both you and your child prepare for this exciting next step.

How do settling in sessions work?

Our settling-in process is completely tailored to each individual child, with no fixed number of sessions. We believe that a flexible approach is key to ensuring a happy and confident transition.

The number and length of sessions are decided collaboratively between the child's key worker and the parent. This ensures that every child gets exactly the support they need to feel secure and comfortable in their new environment. We'll continue the sessions for as long as needed until your child is fully settled.

What are your staff-to-child ratios at the nursery?

We are committed to providing the highest standard of care and attention for every child, with safety as our top priority. Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to and, in some cases, exceed UK regulations to ensure a secure, nurturing, and engaging environment.

Our regulated ratios are as follows:

Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)

Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)

Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

By maintaining these ratios, we guarantee that each child receives the individual support, supervision, and guidance they need to thrive in a safe and monitored setting.
