What makes Kindred Mickleover Nursey and Pre-School unique?

At Kindred Mickleover Nursey and Pre-School, we’ve been caring for children in Mickleover for more than 35 years. We’re proud to have a team of longstanding staff and this consistency helps us build real relationships with our families and provides a calm and familiar environment for our children.

Our setting features a specialised baby garden for our little explorers, alongside our main garden complete with a bug hotel and planting area. By growing their own produce, our children develop a healthy, hands-on connection to the world around them; and they love tasting the fresh fruit and veg they’ve grown themselves!

We also host engaging extracurriculars to help our little ones develop their skills. Whether they’re finding their rhythm during music and dance with Boogie Beats, or building confidence and coordination with Tiddle Kicks, these sessions are a lovely way for our little ones to try something new.

Parent Reviews

  • "My son has been at Mary Poppins since he was 13 months, and is now 3years 3 months. He has thrived and developed such an inquisitive and confident personality. He is thriving at Mary Poppins and very grateful for all the support from the staff there."

  • "Mary Poppins has been excellent in looking after our daughter. When we first moved to Derby, it was stressful finding a nursery and sending our daughter for the first time. However, we had a very good experience and always feel reassured when we drop her off before work. The staff are very caring, polite, and keep us updated about everything.Thank you to the Mary Poppins team for all your care and support."

  • "Denise and the team are really friendly and efficient, I feel confident putting my little boy in nursery, he is happy and he is learning and socialising. Communication is brilliant and the facilities are good"

    Katie C

  • "After having my son, the thought of returning to work and leaving him in other peoples care really worried me. As soon as we were welcomed in to Mary Poppins we knew that it was the right place for him. Denise showed us round 4 years ago and we have never regretting putting him in to this nursery. He absolutely loves coming to nursery, he is thriving and we will be so sad for him to leave but having now had our daughter we are exciting for her to begin her Mary Poppins journey. Returning to work this time around does not feel anywhere near as daunting knowing that she will be well looked after and entertained all day. Having personally attended this nursery 30 years ago it still has that family feel which is comforting and yet still professional. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much for them and you can really see that they care for the children. I recommend Mary Poppins to all of my friends and family who are considering nurseries. We couldn't wish for a nursery!"

    Lucy C

  • "Our daughter has been attending Mary Poppins for almost a year now and we couldn't be happier with the nursery. She loves going every morning and is always excited to see her friends and key workers, which tells us everything we need to know about how happy she is there. There are always plenty of activities taking place, along with extra-curricular options such as dance classes, which our daughter absolutely loves. Her confidence, social skills and language have developed so well during her time there, and we feel that the staff at Mary Poppins have played a huge part in this. We are always kept well informed about what's happening at the nursery, and we really appreciate the feedback and updates about what she's been getting up to during the day."

Kindred Mickleover Nursery and Pre-School FAQs

How often do the children play outside at the nursery?

We make sure our children get plenty of time outdoors; we go outside in most weather conditions and at least twice a day to ensure ample time for exploration and learning.

How do you build relationships with parents?

We stay in touch through regular newsletters and host parents' evenings to discuss your child's progress in more detail. We also have an open-door policy, so you can always come to us if you have a question or just want a quick chat.

What links do you have with local schools to prepare my child for the next step?

We’ve got great links with our local schools. Most teachers will come and visit the children here at the nursery, so they can meet in a place where the children already feel at home. We also help them get used to school routines by giving them their own school bags to take a book home on Fridays. Plus, we encourage them to serve their own lunch; it’s a simple way to help them build the independence they’ll need for school mealtimes.

Do you have any links with local charities?

Yes, we support Doorways, a local charity. We get involved in their harvest festival collections to help stock their food bank and support people in our local community.

How personalised is the care in your baby room?

Our baby room is homely and small, which allows us to provide very personalised care. Because the setting is intimate, we can stick closely to your baby's specific routine and give them the one-on-one attention they need at such an important age.
