What makes Kindred Mayflower unique?

Three happy children wearing aprons, kneading dough with rolling pins at a table. Adult and child planting seedlings in a raised garden bed outdoors.

At Kindred Mayflower, we inspire creativity and hands-on learning every day within our purpose-built nursery, which features wonderfully spacious rooms for our little ones to explore.

Our unique purpose-built children's kitchen lets budding chefs develop key motor skills through real-life activities like cutting, scooping, and stirring. The experience goes from garden to table, as children harvest fresh produce from our on-site allotment area to use in their cooking adventures!

Beyond the kitchen, your child can let their imagination run wild in our dedicated Investigation Zone. This room is strictly for sensory-rich messy play and arts and crafts, giving children the space and freedom to create anything they dream up without boundaries.

Parent Reviews

  • "Both my children, ages 2 and 3, have been going to Kindred Mayflower Nursery & Pre-school since September 2022. From the moment my children started with the nursery I saw how happy and engaged they were with all the teachers and the other children. Each member of staff knows each child’s name and always has the most warming presence, even in the early mornings! Never have I encountered a school or nursery that feels like a second home to us all. My children have come on leaps and bounds since attending. They have helped my oldest child potty train and work on his manners to be a bright and happy child. My children's faces light up when walking into nursery to see their teachers and friends. The staff, to me and my partner, have always been helpful and encouraging of the new learning and developments in my children’s life and are always there when we have questions. We are so glad to have our children attend Mayflower Nursery. A big thank you to all the staff for everything you do for my little family."

  • "My daughter has been at Kindred Mayflower since she was 9 months old. Her growth and development has been second to none. The staff are amazing and my daughter loves going to nursery, she doesn’t even look back when I drop her off which is such a great feeling - thank you to everyone at Mayflower for all the hard work you put in!"

  • "We are really happy with the nursery we chose for our son. The staff are all so friendly and caring which makes it so much easier to leave him. They do lovely activities with him often themed with the time of year or celebrations such as Halloween, Christmas, Mother's Day, world book day etc. The food they offer is so varied and nutritious and they always say he eats everything so it must be good!As a first time parent leaving him for the first time was really daunting for me but the staff made the transition so much easier and we couldn't be happier with how well he has settled in. I would definitely recommend the nursery to other parents."

  • "My daughter joined Kindred Mayflower nearly a year ago and has settled well from the beginning and it's great to see her developing and transition across the rooms! She is always happy to go in and she has built lovely relationships with her friends and the staff who always make us feel comfortable in the mornings when dropping her off and we always pick her up with a big smile on her face!"

Kindred Mayflower Nursery and Pre-School FAQs

How does your nursery build strong relationships and engagement with parents?

We prioritize a deep, trusting partnership with our families, believing that strong connections with parents and guardians are key to a child's best experience. We actively invite and encourage parents to get involved by hosting a wide variety of family fun activities throughout the year.

This includes:

Stay and Play Sessions

Arts and Crafts Workshops

Seasonal Celebrations

Our goal is to get our parents in as much as possible, ensuring you feel involved and engaged in your child's nursery life. This collaborative approach creates a positive, supportive environment for everyone.

What are your staff-to-child ratios at the nursery?

We are committed to providing the highest standard of care and attention for every child. Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to all UK regulations to ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment.

Our ratios are as follows:

Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)

Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)

Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

This commitment to regulated ratios guarantees that each child receives the individual support and guidance they need to thrive.

What links do you have with local schools to prepare my child for their next step?

We establish key partnerships with local schools to ensure a smooth and confident transition into primary education. Our preparatory links involve both school staff visiting our setting and our children visiting theirs:

School Teachers Visit: Teachers from local primary schools regularly visit our nursery to meet and interact with the children in a familiar environment. This helps children become comfortable with the new faces they will see in reception class.

Stay and Play Sessions: We take our children to the local primary schools to participate in Stay and Play transition sessions. This hands-on experience allows them to explore the reception classrooms and playgrounds before they officially start, greatly reducing any anxiety about the move.

How do settling in sessions work?

We offer a structured, three-day settling-in process designed to gradually build your child’s confidence and ensure a smooth transition.

Session 1: This is a joint session where the parent stays with the child. We use this time to meet the key person, allow the child to explore, and complete the 'All About Me' book with you, gathering essential information about your child's routine and preferences.

Session 2: This session involves the first gentle drop-off. You will leave your child for about an hour and a half, allowing them to practice separation and start forming bonds with staff and other children.

Session 3: The final session is extended to about 2.5 to 3 hours, giving your child time to fully engage in activities and experience a significant part of the nursery routine.

Crucially, additional settling sessions are always available if needed. We tailor the pace to each individual child to ensure they are fully happy and secure before their official start date.

Do you offer 15 hours funded childcare

At Kindred Mayflower we fully participate in the government’s 15 hours free childcare scheme, meaning eligible 3 and 4-year-olds can access free 15 hours childcare each week. We also support parents in applying for childcare 15 hours free funding, and will guide you through every step of the application process. This ensures that high-quality early years care is more affordable and accessible to families in Billericay.
