Outdoor Explorations in and around Bromley

Bromley is surrounded by lots of wonderful green spaces, making it the perfect place for outdoor family adventures and nature-based learning.

  • Nature Walks:

Head to local spots like Jubilee Country Park, Hayes and Keston Common, or the stunning Beckenham Place Park to experience autumn's sensory delights. Watch as the colours of the trees transform into fiery shades of orange and red and listen to the satisfying crunch of fallen leaves under your feet.

  • Scavenger Hunts:

Challenge your little one to a sensory scavenger hunt and see who can find the most interesting leaves, acorns, or conkers. This hands-on activity is an interactive way to teach children about the changing seasons and allows them to explore lots of different textures. For an extra dose of fun, why not follow the acorn trail at Scadbury Park Nature Reserve.

  • Puddle Jumping:

Grab your wellies and rain mac, get outside, and find the perfect puddles to stomp in. It's the best way to make the most of a typically British rainy autumn day, whether you're headed to the park, taking a walk down Bromley High Street or playing in your back garden.

  • Mini Beast Hunt:

Become nature detectives, gently investigating under logs and lead piles to discover who just might be hiding beneath. In the autumn, insects like woodlice, centipedes, and worms thrive in the damp conditions and can usually be found in abundance. As you discover insects, talk about their different colours, shapes, and sizes to make it a fun, educational experience.

  • Apple Picking:

For a fun day trip, why not try apple picking at Hewitts Farm just outside of Orpington? A short 30-minute drive from Bromley, this trip is the perfect opportunity for a hands-on learning experience about where our food comes from. Your little one can explore and taste different varieties of apple straight from the tree. As a bonus, you'll harvest the key ingredient for a delicious indoor activity: making a lovely autumnal spiced apple pie or crumble!
