What makes Kindred Cheshunt unique?

At Kindred Cheshunt Nursery and Pre-School, children benefit from a nurturing environment that combines exciting learning experiences with a genuine family feel. One of our standout features is our extensive outdoor provision, with large age-specific gardens where children can explore, play and learn through hands-on experiences every day.

Children enjoy our sensory room, a spacious gardening area and outdoor spaces designed for different age groups. Whether they are digging, planting flowers, searching for mini beasts or taking part in outdoor activities with friends, children are encouraged to develop confidence, independence and a love of the natural world.

We are passionate about creating opportunities for learning beyond the nursery day. Our lending library allows families to borrow books to enjoy together at home,  while our welcoming reading area gives families the opportunity to share stories with their children before or after their nursery sessions.

Kindred Cheshunt Nursery and Pre-School FAQs

How do settling in sessions work?

We understand that every child settles differently, so our settling-in process is flexible and tailored to each child's individual needs. During the week before your child's start date, our team works closely with parents and carers to agree the most appropriate settling-in plan and ensure children feel happy, secure and confident as they begin their nursery journey.

Under 2s: Children under two are typically offered five settling-in sessions over the course of a week, ranging from one hour to two-and-a-half hours.

Older Children: Children aged two and over are usually offered four settling-in sessions across the week, with visits gradually increasing in length as children become more familiar with the nursery environment.

During your child's first session, we ask families to stay and complete an 'All About Me' form so we can learn about their routines, interests and individual needs. During this time, children can begin exploring their new environment and building relationships with our educators. As children's confidence grows, sessions gradually become more independent.

How do you build relationships with parents?

Building strong relationships with families is at the heart of everything we do. We believe children thrive when parents and educators work closely together, so we take time to get to know each family and create regular opportunities for parents to be involved in nursery life.

Our lending library allows families to borrow books to enjoy together at home, and we also provide a welcoming reading space where parents and carers can share stories with their children before or after nursery sessions. We regularly send home activities linked to children's learning and real-world events, helping families continue conversations, creativity and exploration beyond the nursery day.

Throughout the year, families are invited to take part in a range of special events and celebrations, including graduation, summer fairs, seasonal celebrations, Mother's Day and Father's Day activities. Children often create keepsakes, take-home projects and themed activities linked to events taking place within the nursery, giving families the opportunity to be part of their child's learning journey.

Alongside these experiences, our team maintains regular communication with families, sharing updates, celebrating achievements and working together to support each child's development.

How often do the children play outside?

Outdoor play is an important part of everyday life at Kindred Cheshunt. Children are outside as much as possible. Children have access to our large age-specific outdoor environments throughout the day and are encouraged to enjoy free-flow access. We believe children learn best through hands-on experiences, so we provide opportunities for outdoor exploration, physical activity and learning in all weather conditions.

What are your staff-to-child ratios at the nursery?

We are committed to providing the highest standard of care and attention for every child, with safety as our top priority. Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to and, in some cases, exceed UK regulations to ensure a secure, nurturing, and engaging environment.

Our regulated ratios are as follows:

Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)

Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)

Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

By maintaining these ratios, we guarantee that each child receives the individual support, supervision, and guidance they need to thrive in a safe and monitored setting.

What are the parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up?

We aim to make drop-off and pick-up as easy as possible for families. The nursery benefits from ample on-site parking, and families can use the secure entry system to contact either the office or their child's room directly on arrival. This helps create a smooth handover at the start and end of each day while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
