Meet Our Kindred Islington Nursery Staff
Mikki Parkes
Senior Nursery Manager
Hello, I'm Mikki. I am originally from Wales and moved to London back in 1997.
I completed my NNEB in 1993. This was original Level 3 qualification in Early Years. I have since completed my NVQ4 in Childcare, and my NVQ5 in Management and taken part in numerous early years trainings and projects.
I love all aspects of child development, but I have a passion for supporting speech & language development as well as children’s wellbeing & self-esteem and also movement & physical play and how this supports brain development.
Nese Tarhan
Deputy Manager
Hi, my name is Nese, and I am the Deputy Manager at Kindred Islington.
I have worked at this nursery for 15 years and have been the deputy for the past 5 years. My nationality is Turkish, and I am mum to a 6 year old boy.
I hold a Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and I am also the named Health and Safety Co-ordinator for the nursery. I enjoy my roles and relish creating new experiences with our little ones whilst creating memories and learning new skills along the way.

Kindred Islington Nursery and Pre-School FAQ
How does your nursery build strong relationships and engagement with parents?
We believe a strong partnership with parents is essential for a child's success. We prioritize building robust relationships with our families by hosting a variety of regular events and opportunities for interaction:
-
Parent Events: We organize numerous parent events throughout the year to celebrate achievements and foster community.
-
Coffee Mornings: We frequently host informal coffee mornings, providing a relaxed setting for parents to meet staff and connect with other families.
-
We offer informative parent workshops focused on general 'good to know' topics. These are designed to provide practical knowledge and resources for parents that extend beyond daily nursery life.
By inviting parents in as often as possible, we ensure a collaborative, open, and welcoming atmosphere.
What links do you have with local schools to prepare my child for their next step?
We establish key partnerships with local schools to ensure a smooth and confident transition for your child. Our preparation focuses on both the child's readiness and supporting parents through the application process:
-
School Visits: Children attend introductory visits to local primary schools accompanied by their keyperson. This familiar support helps children feel secure and comfortable while experiencing their new environment.
-
Parent Workshops: We host informative how to apply to school workshops. These sessions often feature ex-alumni parents who can share their real-world experience, offering practical advice and guidance on navigating the school application process.
What are your staff-to-child ratios at the nursery?
We are committed to providing the highest standard of care and attention for every child. Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to all UK regulations to ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment.
Our ratios are as follows:
Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)
Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)
Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)
This commitment to regulated ratios guarantees that each child receives the individual support and guidance they need to thrive.
How do settling in sessions work?
We offer a structured yet flexible approach to settling in, typically involving three graduating sessions to ensure a smooth and confident transition for your child.
-
First Session: You and your child will attend together. We use this time to complete the All About Me book and essential paperwork. You can then leave your child in the room and enjoy a coffee in our reception area. This allows your child to begin forming bonds with their key person while knowing you are close by.
-
Subsequent Sessions (Drop-Off): For the remaining sessions, you will drop off your child for a designated period. This allows your child to fully immerse themselves in the nursery routine and practice separation.
Our team works with you to tailor the sessions to your child's individual pace, ensuring they feel secure and happy before their official start date. We are always prepared to offer additional sessions if needed.
Do you offer 15 hours funded childcare?
At Kindred Islington, we are proud to participate in the government’s free 15 hours childcare scheme for eligible 3 and 4 year-olds. This means many families can access childcare 15 hours free per week for qualifying children, reducing your overall childcare costs while still benefiting from our high-quality early years provision. If you’d like to check eligibility or how this funding can apply to your child, our team can walk you through it during your visit or via our funding brochure.
