Kindred Royston Church House Nursery and Pre-School

Community experiences are an important part of life at Kindred Royston Church House, helping children develop confidence, social skills and a greater understanding of the world around them.

One of our most valued partnerships is with a local care home, where small groups of children take part in monthly visits and intergenerational activities organised alongside the care home's Activities Coordinator. These experiences help children build empathy, communication skills and meaningful relationships with older members of the community.

Children also visit the local library, enjoy nature walks around the local area and take part in a variety of outdoor exploration experiences. From spotting seasonal changes and discovering local wildlife to taking part in simple nature-based activities, we encourage children to become curious explorers of the world around them. These experiences help children develop confidence, communication skills and a sense of belonging within the Royston community, while bringing learning to life in meaningful ways.

We understand that starting nursery is a big milestone for children and their families, which is why our settling-in process is carefully designed to be gradual, personal and supportive. Settling sessions usually begin one to two weeks before a child's start date, allowing everyone to become familiar with the environment, routines and nursery team.

The first session typically lasts up to 45 minutes and takes place alongside parents and carers. During this visit, we complete an "All About Me" discussion, learn about your child's routines, interests and preferences, and begin building those all-important relationships. The second session is usually around one and a half hours, with a short period of separation so children can start becoming comfortable in their new surroundings while families gain confidence in the process.

The third session lasts approximately two hours and gives children greater independence within the nursery environment. Throughout the settling-in period, our experienced team carefully observes how each child is responding and adapts the process where needed. Every child settles at their own pace, and we work closely with families to ensure children feel safe, secure and ready to begin their nursery journey with confidence.

Preparing children for school is about much more than learning routines. At Kindred Royston Church House, we focus on helping children develop the confidence, independence and social skills they need for a positive transition to school.

Where possible, local teachers visit the nursery for stay-and-play sessions, giving children opportunities to meet school staff in a familiar environment. Throughout their preschool years, children are encouraged to practise important life skills such as self-care, toileting, self-serving food, managing personal belongings and following simple routines.

We also support children with their fine motor development, early literacy, communication skills and emotional understanding. Children learn how to work with others, build friendships, show empathy and become increasingly independent learners. We work closely with families throughout the transition process, sharing practical guidance and ensuring everyone feels prepared for this exciting next step.

Learning is shaped around individual interests and next steps, with plenty of opportunities to explore, discover and think independently. We believe in giving children the time, space and support to develop their own ideas and make sense of the world around them.

A strong sense of community runs through everything we do. From involving families in nursery life and celebrating special occasions together, to regular visits within the local community, we help children build meaningful connections with the world around them.

We are conveniently located close to Royston town centre and Royston railway station, making it easily accessible for many local families. The nursery has a small on-site car park, providing parking spaces for quick drop-off and pick-up visits.

Additional roadside parking is available nearby, although some surrounding spaces are intended for short stays only. As the nursery is situated within a residential area, families can choose to walk to nursery.

To support children's wellbeing and security, our nursery operates separate arrangements for different age groups. Babies have dedicated drop-off and collection procedures, while older children's rooms operate separately upstairs within the building. This helps ensure safe arrivals and departures while allowing staff to provide personalised handovers at the beginning and end of each day. Our team is always available to guide new families through the process and answer any questions about accessing the nursery.
