Ice Experiments
One minute wow: Three amazing ice experiments that you can do at home.
The Crazy Scientist does Ice experiments!
Fishing for Ice
What do you need: Ice Cubes, salt, string and anything to hold the string (a pencil or stick)
How to do the experiment:
1) Place ice cubes in a tray or bowl
2) Put the string on the ice cubes, make sure it is touching them
3) Pour on a small amount of salt
4) Count to 10
5) Take whatever you have attached the string to and pull that up slowly
6) Count how many ice cubes you have caught.
Crazy fact: salt lowers the freezing point of water
Rescue Buzz from the Glacier
What do you need: a pre frozen block of ice with your favourite character inside (you can do this by filling any plastic container with water and putting it in the freezer), some salt, warm water and something to excavate your character (a spoon, a toy hammer).
How to do the experiment:
1) Place your frozen block of ice on a table
2) Find your favourite character hidden in the glacier
3) Pour a little bit of salt and warm water over the glacier
4) Excavate (that’s a funny word) your character from the glacier using your spoon or other item.
5) Free your character
Crazy fact: Excavate means to make (a hole or channel) by digging.
Unleash Elsa’s Magic
What do you need: a pre frozen block of ice with different jewels inside (I used some old jewellery). You could use a bucket to freeze your water in to make it look like a castle. Also you will need some warm water and a little pipette or ask your mummies and daddies for a medicine syringe.
How to do the experiment:
1) Place your Frozen palace on a table
2) Look for the jewels
3) Use your pipette to squeeze warm water on the palace
4) Unleash the magic
Crazy fact: Ice storms happen when snow passes through warm and cold layers in the atmosphere.
