Funky Finger Challenge: Catch the mini beasts

Children love exploring new worlds, whether it is a land filled with dinosaurs, or a mini beast undergrowth this great activity is not only exciting to make, but also enables hours of fun exploring this strange new world! This simple activity can help build fine motor skills and help their future writing skills.

What you will need:

  • A tray or plant pot with raised sides
  • Animals or any toys that interest your child
  • Tape or string
  • Children’s tweezers
  • Leaves, grass, and sticks

Start by choosing your new world to explore. It could be dinosaurs, princeses, jungle animals - which animals will you save from the giant spiders web?

We've chosen a creepy crawly undergrowth to explore. Start by taping across the tray or use string to make a spider web shape across the top of the plant pot or tray. Once you have placed the tape across the tray it is time to start adding the leaves and grass underneath for your animals to hide on and under. Once you have added the base for the animals to be placed on you can start to place the animals under the tape and hide them between then leaves and grass. You can also balance some of the animals on the tape.

Now your mini beast world is ready to go and be explored, your children can use the tweezers to save the animals from the giant spider - but watch out for the spiders web! The use of the tweezers or even their fingers is great way to help build the strength in their funky fingers!
