Kindred's Pancake Day Competition 2023
It's Pancake Day, and at Kindred, we know how creative our children's minds are. So we thought it would be SWEET to hold a little competition... We know you're going to FLIP when you hear the prize!
Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, is a centuries-old tradition celebrated in many countries around the world. The day marks the beginning of the religious observance of lent, and is a day of feasting and indulgence before the 40 days of fasting. Shrove Tuesday earned the nickname Pancake Day as it was originally a day to use up people's eggs, butter and milk, which were traditionally not allowed during the 40 days of lent— and what better to do with these ingredients than make pancakes?
To this day, families around the world still like to mark this day with these sweet or savoury treats, and the toppings and designs seem to get more and more innovative every year... So we thought we'd hold a little competition to see just how creative your little ones can get with theirs!
So, for the chance to win a brilliant Crêpeaffaire Pancake Mix Kit delivered straight to your door, simply post a picture of a pancake your little one has decorated in the comments of our pinned Facebook post here— the more imaginative the better! To help you get started, here is a super simple recipe to use as a canvas for your masterpiece:
Our Easy-peasy Pancake Recipe
Ingredients
- 100g plain flour
- 2 large eggs
- 300ml milk
- 1 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil
- A pinch of salt
Method
STEP 1
Put all listed ingredients into a bowl or large jug, then whisk to a smooth batter.
STEP 2
Set aside for 30 mins to rest if you have time, or start cooking straight away.
STEP 3
These next two parts are just for the grown-ups. Set a medium frying pan (or crêpe pan if you have one!) over a medium heat and carefully wipe it with some oiled kitchen paper.
STEP 4
When hot, cook your pancakes for 1 min on each side until golden, keeping them warm in a low oven as you go.
STEP 5
Once all of your pancakes are ready, it's time to hand creative control back over to the little ones with a host of their favourite toppings. We like chocolate spread and strawberries, but the possibilities are endless!
STEP 6
Though it will be tempting to eat them straight away, don't forget to take a snap of your creations before devouring them for the chance to win our competition. We can't wait to see your entries!
