Starting Nursery: Real Tips from Our Kindred Families

At Kindred Nurseries, we understand that starting Nursery can be a big step for both children and their parents. The process of settling in is unique to every family, but one thing remains constant: the support of our wonderful Kindred community. That’s why we’ve reached out to families across our settings to share their personal experiences and helpful tips on making this transition as smooth as possible.

Hearing from other parents who have been in your position can provide reassurance, guidance, and a sense of connection. Below, you’ll find real tips and anecdotes from our Kindred families—insights that reflect the warm, nurturing environment we work hard to create every day.

From understanding our settling-in process, to using our Parent Communication app, or simply getting to know our lovely teams, these families share what made the difference for them. Whether you’re preparing for your child’s first day or just looking for a little extra reassurance, we hope these tips help you feel more confident in this exciting new chapter.

❝The settling-in process couldn't have gone any better for us. We had opportunities to come at different times of the day so M got to experience tea, lunch and outdoor time all in short sessions.
The staff were great at planning the best times with us so that M was able to stick to his usual routine. We were so worried about him sleeping at Nursery (he's not a great sleeper at home) and we couldn't believe it when we heard that he'd gone to sleep during one of his settling-in sessions without any crying at all!
He was always excited to come to Nursery during the settling process and after 4 months of being, there he loves it even more now!
Thank you to all the amazing staff!❞

❝As a first-time mum, leaving my 13-month-old for the first time was a big thing for me... but I had nothing to worry about!
All the staff were lovely from day one, making me feel reassured and giving my little boy the best time every time he attended. He's recently moved into learning lane, and once again the staff have been reassuring and absolutely lovely! He's gone from saying which friends he wants to see, to saying staff names and waving and saying their names everytime we drive past!
The Satchel app is brilliant, giving me an insight into his day whilst I'm at work wondering what he's up to!❞

❝The settling-in process is amazing, offering lots of settle sessions. The staff in Readiness Road 2 were amazing at settling in E, and so understanding. I love the app and seeing what E has been up to every day, and how you can communicate on it. We are so thankful for the team in Readiness 2 and are grateful for all the love and care they give to E.❞

❝We were initially quite anxious about how our son would settle in at Nursery as he was born early in the pandemic and spent his first year in lockdown with us, but we honestly had nothing to worry about. The staff were absolutely amazing with him and he took to them all so quickly. The management helped with any worries we had and we found that the communication on the app kept our minds at rest, letting us know how he was eating, sleeping, etc. Our tip for other families at the start of their nursery journey would be don't be afraid to ask questions! There won't be anything they haven't heard before and they all just want the best for you and your child.❞

❝My son joined Kindred Bromley North at just 11 months old in September, and I was initially anxious about the settling process. However, the baby team did an outstanding job, and he adjusted in less than two weeks. Finding the right nursery is challenging, but I’m truly happy with this one. They provide excellent care for the children and keep parents informed with daily updates. I feel confident that my son is in a safe and nurturing environment when I’m not with him. The staff are genuinely kind and attentive. My experience has been very positive, and I’m grateful for the wonderful care they provide for A.❞
